For the non-horticulturists among us…

If you picked up one of the little bags of bulbs at Kate’s service, we thought it might be helpful to have some guidance on how to plant them. Both bulbs (Narcissus and Fritillaria*) can be planted in the ground during early - mid Autumn and will flower yearly in the spring.

  • Use a trowel or spade to make a slit in the ground, or remove a cylinder of soil.

  • Place the bulb in the ground, pointy end up, about 10cm deep.

  • Close the slit / replace the cylinder of soil.

  • Fritillarias grow best in damp conditions. Daffodils are less fussy.

  • Both can also be grown in pots - use peat-free compost if doing so.

We’d love to see pictures of your flowers next spring. If you would be happy to share yours with kateleafmiller@gmail.com we may post some of the pictures on this site.

Big thanks to our dear friend Rachel Robinson for her input.

*After the embarrassing spelling mistake on the bag labels, Steven now knows how to spell Fritillaria.
